Going back to school gift ideas

Summer is almost over and it is time again to go back to school. This is the time of the year where parents send their kids off to school or college. It is a special time of the year specially if this your kid’s first year in college. Transitioning from high school to college life is no easy feat, it is a completely different world, new system of learning, new friends, and the hardest one of all, relocating away form family.

So, what do families typically do to ease that transition? bring all the comforts of home to the kid’s new dorm room. Comfy bed, video game, nice laptop, maybe an iPod, the list goes on. In doing so families forget that the best thing a new freshman can do is to mingle with the new student body and make friends as quickly as possible rather than stay in their comfy dorm room. So, you need to send the kids off prepared to meet new people. You might think, or your kid migh want, the newest cool cell phone gadget - Motorola Razr phones at time of writing - but consider that for a few seconds before you jump on a two year contract and a $200 bill. How many other kids will have the same cool gadget? a lot! So now your kid finds himself or herself in a competition for the coolest cell phone, time to download ringtones and load on the accessories. More dough out the door and the kid is competing instead of making friends!

Here is my suggestion to you, skip all the above and get your kid a cool personalized item that no one else will have. An Egyptian Cartouche pendant with his or her name in Hieroglyphics. It is a definite attention graber and a conversation starter. Your kid will love it and all the friends she will make will envy her for being so untraditional and so cool.

So, drop everything you are doing and go online and get your kid a cool personalized necklace that will help ease the transition to college life.
