Can I fit my name on a cartouhce pendant?
An Egyptian cartouche can typically fit 4-8 letters or symbols easily. It gets a little tricky when your personalized message is about 8 letters. Names in English do not map to exactly the same number of symbols in hieroglyphics. So a name that is 8 letters in English can translate to more than 8 hieroglyphic letters. Also keep in mind that the artist personalizing the cartouche for you has a lot of latitude with hieroglyphic letters, he can size them differently and arrange them in various ways on the cartouche to make fit aesthetically. That is true for ancient hieroglyphics script in general and in fact if you look at writings on ancient Egyptian tombs and temples you will see it is really a form of art, the symbols are arranged to give the overall document or plaque a nice geometrical form. This is of course not possible with English/Roman letters, so if you want to personalize he cartouche with 8 Roman/English letters it may or may not fit.
