This is a bit out of the theme of this blog…but what the heck.
Italy tied 1-1 with US in group E of World cup 2006. The game was very exciting and full of events. You can read a full review on SI’s website.

So, where do we go from here? In group E Italy is at the top now with 4 points, Czech Republic and Ghana follow with 3 points each and USA comes last with a single point. There are only two games left in this group, both on Jun 22 at the same time. As you can see from the current standings of group E, there is one scenario where the USA can advance to the next round.

If Italy looses against Czech republic then Italy’s points will remain at 4 points. At the same time if the USA can beat Ghana and grab those 3 points, it will tie with Italy point wise and we then must at the goals for and against for each of them to decide who can advance. The goal differential is now +2 for Italy and -1 for USA. That means for the USA to qualify for next round, Italy must loose to Czech republic by at least two goals and USA beats Ghana by at least 3 goals or more. It sounds like a possible scenario, but sure is going to be tough.
